What is a MENTORSHIP with DIG?

This is a FREE, self-serve channel, to simply allow folks to advertise and reach out for help/provide services.

MENTORS

How do I become a Mentor?

If you’ve been in the industry for a while and would like to assist some folks newer to the industry a role - you are eligible to be a mentor! 

  1. All you have to do is write in the channel who you are, how long you’ve been in the field and what sort of mentoring support you’d like to offer.

  2. Please select in the ROLES that you are a mentor

  3. When a mentee reaches out to you to make a connection, please reply back into the channel to update the group about your remaining bandwidth.

What are the expectations of being a Mentor?

  1. A Mentor should be available to meet up with their Mentee on a regular cadence (determined by what works with the both of you)

  2. A Mentor should offer guidance, support, feedback for things that will help the Mentee grow in their career

  3. Be open to listening to others experiences that are different than yours 

    1. Industry changes over time

    2. People have different experiences due to different cultural backgrounds, age groups, places of origin

  4. Be mindful and respectful

MENTEES

How do I become a mentee? 

  1. Are you looking to learn from someone else that has been in the industry for awhile, or in a role you’re interested in? Congrats, you are eligible to be a mentee!

    1. Search the channel for previous introductions from Mentors. Make a connection.

    2. Write in the channel who you are, your role, and what sort of support you’re looking for!

What are the expectations of a Mentee? 

  1. Be willing to listen and want to learn from your Mentor

  2. Understand boundaries; your mentor is doing this in their spare time and may not always have the bandwidth to help you. 

  3. Bring lots of questions! Don’t expect your mentor to drive the meeting. You should have a list of topics to cover, and your mentor will answer. 

  4. Don’t expect your mentor to have all the answers to your questions
